I want to grow something wild & unruly…

My name is Kira Rockwell (she/her) I’m a neurodivergent playwright and educator. Through a trauma informed, healing centered lens, I aim to nurture communal spaces that disrupt passivity and empower agency. The stories I write are an altar-call of catharsis. They are a visceral ritual that opens portals to realms beyond the physical, if only for a fleeting moment.

When I’m not writing or teaching, you can probably find me sipping on iced coffee at the park with my creative husband and our sweet lab pit, or trying to talk to a caterpillar. Feel free to explore my website where you can read about my plays, my class offerings, and connect with me through the contact page.

Selected Play: OH TO BE PURE AGAIN

During one hot Texas summer at church camp, an idealistic counselor tries to shepherd the senior girls’ cabin along their journey to make an authentic connection with something larger than themselves, only to face disillusionment with her own faith. A guttural ode to female desire, submission, and rebellion, delving into the experiences of coming of age in a religious culture that's obsessed with your sexual purity.

“Perhaps what is most remarkable about
Oh, To Be Pure Again is the way it creates
equal space for both rage and hope.”
